KIDS LESSONS & THE BENEFITS OF LEARNING MUSIC

Learning to play a musical instrument at an early age can enhance many aspects of a child's life. The disciplined structured practice in music strengthens various brain functions and allows a child to apply those strengths to academic, social and emotional activities.

Musicians often have higher levels of executive function, which involves multitasking, strategising and a heightened focus to detail. Musicians have been found to create, store and retrieve information faster and more efficiently.

Music and math are highly intertwined. By understanding beat, rhythm and scales, children are learning how to divide, create fractions and recognise patterns.

+ Reading & Comprehension is involved when playing music. Children need to identify a note on the page and recognise which note (pitch) to play on their instrument, how long to hold it, what finger to use and how loudly to play it.

+ Music is multifaceted and multidimensional. Different aspects of music are processed by different systems in the brain. Melody/Pitch one system. Tempo/Rhythm a second system.

+ Self Expression & Social Skills play a big part in music. School Bands & Ensembles, Class Performances, Gigs and career prospects such as teaching.

Imagination is a silver bullet to self-doubt - Music is the trigger...
